“Drive-By” Mobile Resource Management
A municipal public works department is having difficulty tracking the location of their steel road plates and needs a cost effective solution that tracks and inventories their current location, either on the road, on a truck, or in storage.
Solution: OnCommTM equipped vehicles with RFID inventory road plates as they drive by recording the location, time and date of the plates. As OnCommTM equipped vehicles drive around, in the normal course of business, the current inventory of the road plates is maintained automatically. This solution delivers “drive-by-inventory” of field assets.
Effective Distribution of Mobile Assets
A large utility has a broad-range of expensive assets (pumps, generators, backhoes, cable-pullers, etc.) distributed over a large geographic area. The utility’s overall equipment inventory appears to be adequate to handle the workload for the entire utility. However, some regions do not have enough equipment, and other regions have equipment that is often idle. The utility wants to get control of capital expenditures and expensive equipment rentals. Additionally, the utility has determined that a significant amount of time is spent looking for lost or missing assets.
Solution: High-value mobile-assets are tracked and inventoried through AVaiL RFIDTM tags. Assets that are generally kept with a vehicle are tagged and tracked through AVaiL RFIDTM. AVaiL RFIDTM may also be programmed to begin reporting when the asset starts moving. Long-range RFID readers can identify and report on assets up to 600 feet away as the vehicle drives around doing normal work.
This solution utilizes AVaiL RFIDTM to inventory all mobile-assets with the location and motion history. This information allows the utility to better utilize assets and therefore reduce capital expenditures. It also virtually eliminates lost or misplaced mobile assets. |
